A Little About Commissioner Jim Taylor
Re-elect Commissioner
James P. Taylor
the future of Matthews

Dear Matthews Citizens,

I have had the honor and privilege of serving as your elected representative on the Matthews Town Council for the past ten years. The last two as Mayor Pro-Tem.  I feel that I have proven my leadership abilities and that we have all seen the positive results; safer neighborhoods, accelerated street and infrastructure improvements, a beautiful new Town Center / Public Library, Public Safety facility, expansion of our Fire Department and a new Public Works facility. All this while maintaining a property tax rate that is not out of line with other Mecklenburg Towns. In fact, Matthews provides many more services at a higher quality level to it's citizens than many of the other towns and many of their tax rates are equal to or higher than Matthews. Matthews is a very efficiently run town and I intent on keeping up the high standards we all have come to expect and deserve.  I have established good working relationships with the elected and appointed officials of the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County as well as our neighboring Towns. I feel I have also established a good working relationship with many of you. Today, I am asking for your continued support as I seek re-election to a fsixth term as your Commissioner. Please allow me the opportunity to continue the efforts I have started and keep our town moving in the correct direction as we continue to move forward in the 21st century.

I need to ask for your help in my effort to win re-election. If you are happy with my performance and willing to help with my campaign, please contact me. I can use your talent, suggestions, and financial help. If you would be willing to place a sign in your yard or business, contact neighbors, or pass out flyers, I would welcome the support. Together we can continue to keep Matthews a wonderful place to live, work and play. Please feel free to call or e-mail me with any questions or suggestions. Most importantly, I need your vote on November 3rd. Together we can maintain the Matthews we have all come to love and call home. Thank you Matthews!

Sincerely,
Jim Taylor
Commissioner & Mayor Pro-Tem

A little more about Commissioner Taylor

Jim and his wife, Joselyn, are long time residents of the Town of Matthews. Their family has grown over the years and currently they have two children, Breanna and Brandon. Jim grew up in Miami, Florida and is a graduate of the University of South Florida in Tampa.  Joselyn is a Registered Dental Hygenist that occasionally fills in at local dentist offices in and around the Matthews area. Jim works for Wachovia Corporation as a Vice President and Finance Manager within the General Banking Group. Prior to joining Wachovia, Jim had a rewarding 10-year career with Bank of America as Vice President of Finance in their uptown corporate headquarters. Jim's financial background has been a valuable asset to the town in it's efforts to keep taxes low while maintaining the high level of services that the town has come to expect.

Some of the issues that are of importance to our Town are the numerous requests to develop the small infill areas within our town boundries.  Jim understands that we need to be very careful as we address these areas as we no longer have large tracts of land to deal with.  How Town Council handles these smaller areas will impact all of us for many years to come.  Along with these infill areas we have traffic issues that we need to address.  Commissioner Taylor also realizes that this becomes a very tricky issue as we try to relieve the preasure on existing roads while maintaining the "feel" of our town.  Jim has stated that we can not just widen roads and push as much traffic through... we need to be careful to to distroy a major aspect that caused so many people to want to call Matthews home.  In addition, the many capital improvement projects that we have undertaken in prior years need to be maintained and care for. These include the construction of the new Public Works Facility, new Public Safety Building, expanded Fire Department facility and our new Town Hall and Public Library to mention just a few. In addition, Commissioner Taylor has pushed for the Town's involvement into a public/private joint venture project to re-vitilze our downtown area with the Matthews Station project. Commissioner Taylor has helped to balance these multiple projects along with the many demands of citizens of Matthews for increased levels of services such as more police protection, improved fire protection, infrastructure improvements and the need for more recreational areas within Matthews. Commissioner Taylor has pushed to maintain the high level of quality services demanded by Matthews Citizens while maintaining a competitive property tax rate. These are very important times for our town and Commissioner Taylor wants to continue working to insure Matthews continues to remain a great place to live, work and raise our families. With your help, Jim will continue "improving" Matthews while not "changing" Matthews.

Another major issue facing Matthews is growth. We need to balance the needs of the entire community with the needs of our continued growth. We need to insure that we do not overlook the big picture while deciding on certain issues. Commissioner Taylor pushed for the Town take an active role in working with SAM'S Club a few years ago to see that this good corporate citizen remained in the Town of Matthews. As a result, Sam's Club expanded a and stayed within in our Town. Jim is very involved in our community, he servered on the Board of Directors of the Matthews HELP Center and currently serves on board of the Matthews Volunteer Fire Department. As your elected representative, Jim will continue to support your views. Jim will remain accessible and approchable to all Matthews citizens and will continue to work hard for all of Matthews. After all, Jim will work for all of us.....
the great citizens and families of Matthews.
